The Poet

Shakespeare was a playwright of great ability,
And, although very few of us know it,
That besides being a great writer of tragedy,
Shakespeare was a notable poet.
He wrote sonnets of love and sonnets of truth,
Countless sonnets of feelings in-depth.
He wrote sonnets of doubt and sonnets of proof,
Even sonnets about life and death.
His sonnets were unique ’cause he had his own style,
And this unique style was named after him.
Now, his sonnets have been ’round for quite some while,
And are read over and over again.
Although Shakespeare is dead and gone,
His great sonnets live on and on.

Writing diamond poems is simple once you get the hang of it. The first thing that you have to do is pick your topic. Make sure to pick one that interests you, because your in for a long journey with it. decide a short phrase or word that you want to use for the poem. Once you have that, start your first line of the poem with one letter. indent then start the second line and increase the amount of characters by a set ammount. In the third line increase by the same ammount. keep doing this untill you spell out the whole word or phrase. Then, decrease by the same ammount in each line untill you’re back to one letter. You have now written a diamond poem. The last step is to give your masterpiece a clever title. Voila!! you are now a poet. Comment below with your poem.

Today I got bored with saying the same ol’ same ol’ term for today, “Wednesday”. I figured I would research some different ways to say it to spice up my day. So I opened up my browser (google is my preference) and I searched translations for the word wednesday. Surprisingly, it was more difficult than I imagined it would be. But, I weeded through all the spam websites and found what I was looking for. I wrote a free-verse poem about it, and I predict you will find it very helpful when your trying to find new ways to say Wednesday. So next time you get bored with saying the same term over and over, find some new ways to say it, it will definitely make your day more interesting. “How to Die”

Dark clouds are smouldering into red
  While down the craters morning burns.
The dying soldier shifts his head
  To watch the glory that returns;
He lifts his fingers toward the skies
  Where holy brightness breaks in flame;
Radiance reflected in his eyes,
  And on his lips a whispered name.

You’d think, to hear some people talk,
  That lads go West with sobs and curses,
And sullen faces white as chalk,
  Hankering for wreaths and tombs and hearses.
But they’ve been taught the way to do it
  Like Christian soldiers; not with haste
And shuddering groans; but passing through it

For english class we had to find a poem about WWI. I chose this one because it was inspiring that while the soldiers are suffering so much and surrounded by pain, they still manage to die with dignity and not feel sorry for themselves.
