Finals week!

Book 2: A Poem About Testing

by Anaisbely Franjul

20 minutes on the clock.
My brain is sweating.
My pencil’s racing through pages.
My hands are crying
“I can’t take it anymore.”
My eyes cry onion tears
Oh no! 10 minutes left
One passage blank
One response half done
The pale chalk
In my teacher’s hand
Mocking my pain
As she erases the numbers and says
“Two minutes left”
Smoke is coming out of my ears
What does “dismal” mean?
I need an ambulance
My heart is going to come out
My hands have a cold
It’s shaking as I circle
The letter B
I am drunk
I’m shrinking
And the room is getting bigger
HELP!
5,4,3,2,1…TIME’S UP!

Nearing the end of the school year we have all of our finals coming up. Last Monday I took my final for French 102 at the City College. I thought it would take me about 40 minutes, but i was so wrong. It took me 2 whole hours! I hope my other finals don’t take that long! Comment below what tests you have to take.

Beach Days

Beached beached
beached we are all
surely beached
upon the shores of life.
Your life or mine
we are beached
beneath blue starry skies
lost upon the shore
we all call creation.
Yes man we surely are
beached every man, child,
woman and beast.
What this beached means
in context of this poem.
I’m yet to know or
really even decide.

This poem is by Wayne Falconer. I wanted to post a poem about the beach because the weather around Santa Barbara has been so great lately. After school today me and my friends Gabe Colette and Hana all just layed on the beach, beached while listening to music and eating snacks. This poem could have used more imagery or used the senses better because I love so many feelings at the beach. Just after you take off you shoes and dip them into the sand is the best. I love the beach and can’t wait for summer. What are you most excited about for summer?!

Senioritis

Sitting here waiting
Watching the clock slowly tick
Tic toc Tic toc
The days go by slowly
It’s April and May is nowhere in sight

It is getting harder to wake up in the morning
Pushing the snooze button once again
Trying to find reasons to stay home
The mind is elsewhere, floating in the clouds

May is finally here
Graduation is full speed ahead
Seinoritus is getting worse
The heart is set on graduation
The mind wants to sleep in ’til noon

BAM
Graduation is finally here
That was the cure needed all along

This poem is called Senioritis written by Kilee Burton. I would say it’s relevant to my life, although I’m not a senior yet, because AP tests are finally over! The school year is coming to an end so all I want to do is go the beach and be outdoors. I’m sure it will be even more accurate when I’m actually a senior 🙂 How are you all feeling about the school year coming to an end? Let me know in the comments

This weeks feature post is about my Biology teacher Donny Warrecker. Every morning I walk into his room for first period and I hit a wall of warmth because somehow that room maintains a constant temperature of about 75 degrees. Some people don’t understand Donny’s humor because it is very dry and sarcastic, however, I find it hilarious. Sometimes he will go off on a completely random story about how if you talk in his class you will not learn about some poisonous plant in the amazon, take a trip there, and while you are taking a walk in the rain forest, you accidentally trip and fall into it, get up and think you’re fine, and 5 days later you start to show symptoms and drop dead 48 hours later. I am just so amused when he rants about these completely off-topic subjects, and I can be found in the back at my table giggling. Our average class consists of a short warm up at the beginning of a slideshow, and he always chooses the people who didn’t do it to tell the class the answer. After that we take notes on his slideshow, and after that he gives us a worksheet to do while he goes around the room stamping the previous nights homework. Then we do the next thing the next morning. Comment below what you think of Donny!

Sock Hop Coming Up

My dryer has taught me
the meaning of true love
able to embrace all my socks as equal

even when it eats one of a pair.
I’ve learned to savor all different colors,
discovered the joy
that comes from defying fashion
just so my socks would be my happiness
even when they never match.
Taking time to genuinely discover their qualities
how soft and warm they made me feel,
though they were different.

Used to be a pain for me
the idea of wearing one blue and the other black,
but then I discovered a simple happiness
from acceptance of what might be cast aside
learning to acknowledge its every detail,
until I was completely happy
with those socks of contrasting colors,
made me look at the world a little different
trying to appreciate other things in life,
which didn’t seem to fit in.

Was something I spent time exploring,
helped with those obvious stares
when people saw my unmatched socks,
merely smiling back without a care.

Tonight there is a sock hop at my school, and the theme is olive and gold (our school colors). We are not allowed to wear shoes, so I will be wearing two colored socks, one green and one yellow. Comment below any other ideas for my outfit!
